Canada-Wide Science Fair 2020 in Edmonton, Alberta and most of the 103 regional science fairs across the country may have been cancelled, but the passion for discovery and innovation amongst Canadian youth will not be denied. Youth Science Canada (YSC), organizers of the national event since its inception in 1962, have launched the YSC Online STEM Fair, a showcase for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) projects that reflect the curiosity and creativity of Canadian youth.
"Over 100 Calgary and area students have entered their fantastic STEM projects remotely. This is a testament to the dedication and hard work these young scientists have shown in the face of the giant curve-ball that is COVID-19," said Katrina Watson, President, Calgary Youth Science Fair.
The public is now invited to jump online at www.makeprojects.com/ysc to view hundreds of incredible student projects as well as the STEM Expo.
Developed by engineering.com, the site features STEM projects submitted by students in grades 7-12, along with opportunities for STEM-related companies, organizations, agencies and institutions to engage visiting students, teachers, parents and the public through the virtual STEM Expo.
With the support of Youth Science Canada’s National Science Fair Network, as well as partners like NSERC PromoScience, Intact Financial Corporation and Cenovus Energy, YSC Online STEM Fair will provide participants with feedback, opportunities for mentorship, as well as virtual recognition for outstanding projects.
Teachers and parents can register at events.eply.com/VisitorsYSCSTEMFair to receive a bilingual Student Activity Guide that helps students explore the fair, identify their own STEM interests and enhance their at-home learning experience.
